Job Description:

We are seeking a talented, dynamic, and self-motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate with experience in cell, molecular biology/biochemistry to train in Dr. Muthu Periasamy’s lab. Current research is focused on understanding mitochondrial biogenesis/dynamics in muscle and its relevance to muscle health, and ageing.  A major goal of our research is investigating the CROSS TALK between the sarcoplasmic reticulum  Ca2+ cycling and mitochondrial metabolism.  The applicant will be trained in mouse models, muscle biochemistry, metabolism and  muscle physiology. Preference will be given to applicants who have background in protein biochemistry, structural biology, and myocyte Ca2+ dynamics. The candidate will be encouraged to work independently and become proficient in manuscript/grant-writing. There are opportunities to develop ideas, seek independent funding, and get promoted in rank.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Requires a Ph.D. degree in Biological sciences
  • Candidates who have research experience in mitochondrial biogenesis  ,  SR Ca2+ cycling  are strongly preferred
  • Ideal candidate must be motivated, has excellent written/oral communication skills, a strong desire and ability to work as a team in a collaborative environment
