The detection and selection of appropriate treatments for early stage Prostate cancer represents a significant health care issue. Despite the controversies around PSA testing it has decreased the number of deaths but at the cost of over diagnosis and over treatment. A biostatistical post doctorial research position is available to join this US-Ireland R&D Partnership grant involving Univ. of CT (UConn), Univ. College Dublin (UCD), National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG), and University of Ulster (UU)

The over-all goal of the project is to provide multiple biomarker-based diagnostics to enable accurate grading and staging of prostate cancer patients and guidance for appropriate choices of therapy. It involved the developed and validation of a novel point of care devise incorporating appropriate biomarker panels to inform clinicians and patients. Protocols developed during biomarker panel assay development will be readily transferred to this novel clinical device with minor modifications. The deliverable devices and protocols developed and validated in this project are intended to solve critical problems in prostate cancer detection to inform appropriate treatment options, and to monitor their effects.
