PhD fellowship (3 years) in developmental regulatory transcriptomics

Nord University
October 12 2016
Position Type
Full Time
FBA invites applications from outstanding candidates for a three-year PhD fellowship within the project on regulatory mechanisms of early embryonic development in zebrafish. A plethora of various regulatory RNAs, in interactions with mostly unknown proteins, plays a crucial part in the regulation of the development. We are particularly interested in the role of various small RNAs in regulation of early development. The study will combine big datasets processing (next generation sequencing) with functional methods, such as cap analysis gene expression (CAGE), genome editing, or genetic knockdown. The study will discover novel mechanisms and novel components of regulatory networks during early development of vertebrates.

Qualifications and requirements

The candidate should have an MSc degree (or equivalent) in natural sciences in one of the following fields:

• Developmental biology

• Molecular cell biology

• Genomics

• Bioinformatics

The grades at the qualifying MS examination needs to be C or better (ECTS scale from A-E).

Education and experience in one or more of the following areas is required: RNA biology, functional genomics in zebrafish, epigenomics , next-generation sequencing.

Hands-on experience in bioinformatics, in vitro and in vivo functional assays, genome editing, immunoprecipitation, non-coding RNAs, zebrafish development, and cell culture are advantageous for the position.

Proficiency in oral and written English is essential and must be documented by either the Norwegian Higher Education Entrance Qualification or internationally recognized certificates, such as TOEFL, IELTS, APIEL or similar.

The successful candidate will join the PhD programme in Aquatic Biosciences at Nord University and is expected to complete a doctorate within the nominal three-year project period. The candidate should fulfill the admission requirements of this PhD programme at the FBA and participate in the training components stipulated in regulations of the PhD program. Application for admission to the programme must be submitted within three months after taking up the position. For admission requirements and regulations, see our web page.

We are looking for highly motivated, creative and ambitious applicants with an excellent academic record and the ability to collaborate with other members of a multidisciplinary team whilst developing their own research project.
