Immunogen Development and Evaluation Faculty Position

Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division

The Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division (VIDD) at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Fred Hutch) is recruiting a full-time Faculty Member at the Assistant Member level (equivalent to Assistant Professor) to develop an independent research program in the design and pre-clinical/clinical evaluation of candidate vaccines against infectious agents, including those causing cancer, with an emphasis on protective B cell immune responses. Candidates must demonstrate a prior record of laboratory work in relevant areas and a track record of high quality peer-reviewed publications, a history of collaborative research, as well as evidence of competitive funding potential in independent research.  This will be a full-time faculty position at Fred Hutch in the VIDD’s Immunology and Vaccine Development Program with the possibility of future joint appointment at the University of Washington.

Applicants must have an MD, PhD, MD/PhD or equivalent and relevant expertise in immunogen-design and protein engineering, high-throughput analysis of B cell responses elicited by vaccines and infectious agents, as well as monoclonal antibody-isolation and characterization. The successful candidate is expected to work productively both independently and within multi-disciplinary research teams.

We offer a highly collaborative and diverse research environment, generous start-up, modern laboratory space and state-of-the art core facilities.  Our program supports research activities that span the entire spectrum from basic to clinical research. Through our HIV trials network (HVTN) we are uniquely positioned to rapidly test vaccine candidates in the clinic.

The FHCRC offers a vibrant intellectual environment within a beautiful, lakeside campus in Seattle’s South Lake Union biotech hub.  The FHCRC campus contains five major research buildings along with Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and is in close proximity, by trolley, to major research partners such as the University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle Children’s Research Institute, Center for Infectious Disease Research (formerly Seattle Biomedical Research Institute), and the Infectious Disease Research Institute. VIDD integrates clinical care, computational methods, basic and translational research to reduce the global burden of infectious diseases.

Interested candidates should submit a CV, a concise research plan statement, and the names and contact information for three (3) references to
