A PhD student position is available starting October 1st, 2016 to study the epigenetic changes that occur within the muscle stem cells of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy patients. This project aims to: 1) define how muscular dystrophy diminishes the ability of muscle stem cells to repair the diseased muscle; and 2) determine whether epigenetic regulatory proteins can be targeted therapeutically to restore maximal regenerative capacity to muscle stem cells. Applicants should have a MSc diploma in an area of biological sciences, with a background in molecular and cellular biology.

This position is a 3-year “Contrat Doctoral MENESR” scholarship with a PhD degree to be earned from the Université Claude-Bernard Lyon 1. Research towards the PhD degree will be performed under he co-supervision of Dr. Bénédicte Chazaud at Université Claude-Bernard Lyon 1 in Lyon, France; and Dr. F. Jeffrey Dilworth at Sprott Center for Stem Cell Research at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute in Ottawa, ON Canada. The successful applicant would be expected to carry out research in both Ottawa and Lyon based on the design of the study.
