The Beirne B. Carter Center for Immunology Research invites applications for a tenure-eligible position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to continue expansion of its research program in Cancer Immunology. We seek candidates with expertise and interest in one or more of the following areas: innate, inflammatory, and regulatory cells and processes in the tumor microenvironment; immune-endothelial cell interactions; regulation of cell activation and trafficking; immune involvement in metastasis; intracellular signaling and metabolic processes that regulate immune responses. We particularly encourage applications from candidates who use new genetic tumor models or who employ modern imaging, genomic, epigenetic, or systems biology approaches to understand immune system function. Candidates must have a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years appropriate postdoctoral experience. Successful candidates will be expected to establish and maintain an energetic, independent and well-funded research program and participate in the teaching of graduate and medical students.
Current areas of research among members of the Carter Immunology Center include cancer antigen identification, lymphocyte homing, costimulatory and inhibitory molecules in immune regulation, innate and adaptive response to infectious agents, the development of lymphocytes and regulation of lymphocyte effector functions, intracellular signaling in lymphocytes and phagocytic cells, and regulation of tumor immunity by microbiota. Along with the strong, collaborative, and collegial faculty, the Center and the UVA School of Medicine provides state of the art research space, numerous molecular and cellular research core facilities including exceptional flow cytometry, advanced microscopy, and small animal imaging. Further, extensive opportunities exist for the development of translational research programs.
