We are seeking a talented, dynamic, and self-motivated Postdoctoral Associate to train in Dr. Muthu Periasamy’s laboratory. Our laboratory specializes in understanding the role of Sarcoplasmic reticulum proteins in cardiac and skeletal muscle physiology. Our studies are focused on understanding how regulation of SERCA pump (Ca2+ ion transport pump) by Sarcolipin and Phospholamban impacts health and disease in cardiac and skeletal muscle. We are currently studying the role of Sarcolipin/SERCA interaction in muscle thermogenesis and metabolism (Please read Maurya et al J. Biol. Chem.-2015 10840-9, Sahoo etal J. Biol. Chem.-2013- 6881-9, Sahoo et al J. Biol. Chem.-2013-6881-9, Bal etal Nat.Med 2012). The applicant will be expected to be proficient in muscle biology, physiology and metabolic studies. Preference will be given to applicants who have strong background in muscle biology, protein biochemistry, Ca2+ signaling, and myocyte Ca2+ dynamics. The candidate will be encouraged to work independently and become proficient in manuscript/grant-writing. There are opportunities to develop ideas, seek independent funding, and get promoted in rank.
- Requires a Ph.D. degree in Biological sciences
- Candidates who have research experience in protein biochemistry, Ca2+ transport studies, Ca2+ imaging /electrophysiology in cardiac myocytes are strongly preferred
- Ideal candidate must be motivated, has excellent written/oral communication skills, a strong desire and ability to work as a team in a collaborative environment
