Tenure-Track Assistant Professor - Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
University of Massachusetts Amherst
The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology [http://www.biochem.umass.edu/] invites applications from scientists with Ph.D.s in areas closely related to Biochemistry and Molecular Biology for a tenure-track position. We are seeking talented applicants qualified for an assistant professor position; however, under exceptional circumstances, highly qualified candidates at other ranks may receive consideration. We seek candidates working in areas that complement existing strengths in cellular biochemistry, including signal transduction, protein trafficking/folding, organelle biogenesis, protein degradation and apoptosis, structure/function of proteins, particularly membrane proteins, gene expression and regulation, and host-microbe interactions. Individuals incorporating structural, computational or synthetic biology in their research programs are strongly encouraged to apply. Faculty in the department have access to the Mass Green High Performance Computing Center [http://www.mghpcc.org/] as well as state-of-the art mass spectrometry, NMR, imaging and biophysical characterization instrumentation through the Institute of Applied Life Sciences [http://www.umass.edu/ials/], which has a focus on translational research. The successful candidate will have access to students from several interdepartmental graduate programs and will be expected to participate in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
The Department is strongly committed to increasing the diversity of the faculty, student body, and curriculum. The Five College Consortium [https://www.fivecolleges.edu/], composed of Smith College, Amherst College, Mount Holyoke College, Hampshire College, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, provides a rich academic and intellectual environment.
Applicants should send curriculum vitae, a description of research interests, and the names and contact information of three reviewers to: http://umass.interviewexchange.com/jobofferdetails.jsp?JOBID=53196
Review of applications will begin on November 3, 2014, and may continue until a suitable candidate pool has been identified.
The University is committed to active recruitment of a diverse faculty and student body. The University of Massachusetts Amherst is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer of women, minorities, protected veterans, and individuals with disabilities and encourages applications from these and other protected group members. Because broad diversity is essential to an inclusive climate and critical to the University’s goals of achieving excellence in all areas, we will holistically assess the many qualifications of each applicant and favorably consider an individual’s record working with students and colleagues with broadly diverse perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds in educational, research or other work activities. We will also favorably consider experience overcoming or helping others overcome barriers to an academic degree and career.
