ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITION IN MESOSCALE THEORY AND COMPUTATION
Department of Chemistry, Iowa State University, Ames, IA 50011
As part of a major interdisciplinary hiring initiative (las.iastate.edu/faculty-careers) in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (www.las.iastate.edu/) at Iowa State University (ISU), a new joint initiative by the Departments of Physics & Astronomy and Chemistry aims to foster and enhance capabilities in mesoscale science. Multiple new hires in the field of Mesoscale Science are planned over the next 2-3 years and should expect to benefit from and contribute to the interaction and collaboration among these and other departments. This mesoscale initiative includes synthesis, characterization, and theoretical understanding of novel functional materials with unique properties controlled by their complex, multi-scale heterogeneous structure. It will build on existing strengths in synthesis of functional nanomaterials, experimental condensed matter physics, and theory & simulation within both departments, and related efforts at the USDOE Ames National Laboratory.
The Department of Chemistry at ISU seeks candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in theoretical and computational chemistry. Candidates should have a demonstrated potential for transformative research in the development of large-scale simulation and multi-scale modeling formulations and algorithms, and an interest in their application to describing complex materials and processes at the mesoscale. Candidates with expertise complementing those that already exist in the departments and who are willing to collaborate with both experimental and theoretical/computational groups are strongly encouraged. The successful candidate will be expected to teach chemistry courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; advise graduate and undergraduate students; generate a scholarly publication record; participate in technical committees and outreach activities; and engage in interdisciplinary research and collaboration.
