About Bordeaux Neurocampus

The University of Bordeaux is ranked among the top universities in France for the quality of its academic courses and research. Named a “campus of excellence” by the French government in 2011, it is a multi-disciplinary, research-focused, international institution.
It welcomes more than 52, 000 students, of which almost 2, 000 are PhD students and 6,800 are foreign students. Around 5, 600 staff members are employed by the University, of which 3, 000 are academic and research staff.

Study Programs
The curricula are organized around four major scientific domains:
     Science and Technology: biology, chemistry, physics, engineering science, computer science, mathematics, environmental science, geology, oceanography
     Law, political science, economy, management: law and political science faculty, economic faculty, management and AES (economic and social administration), IAE (Bordeaux University School of Management), Institute of Labor
     Life and Health sciences: medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, public health, life science (dedicated to health-related issues), paramedical training
     Social and Human sciences: sociology, psychology, social anthropology, ethnology, educational science, sports
A large range of qualifications are possible: over 180 Master specialties, 115 national diplomas in health, a national diploma in oenology etc.

Research

Research is organized around 3 departments: “Science and Technology”, “Life and Health Sciences”, “Social Sciences and Humanities” with 8 doctoral schools to ensure support and guidance for students. The research departments group together 70 research laboratories that are under joint supervision with national research organizations (CNRS, Inserm, INRA, INRIA etc.). One of the main priorities of the University of Bordeaux is to promote the development of thematic clusters of excellence for research, training and knowledge transfer in the following fields: environmental sciences, neurosciences, advanced materials, archaeology, optics and lasers, computer sciences, translational research and advanced imaging, public health and cardiology.

     In addition, each Campus has dedicated offices (for students and international researchers) that offer advice and information to support newcomers’ integration to University and city life. All topics are covered, from administrative issues (visa, health care, housing, insurance) to public transportation and University restaurants.
     Rankings: N°204 within the 2015 general Shanghai ranking. N° 151-200 within the alternative Shanghai Ranking (excluding Award Factor).
     Industrial partnerships with the various economic sectors that exist in the area (aeronautics, space, chemistry, health, IT, optic / laser, forestry and wine).

Geographical location
The University of Bordeaux has one of the largest campus (260 hectares) in Europe. It is composed of several dynamic sites located near to the city and that offer a wide range of services and amenities. In addition, the future looks bright! Operation Campus is an ongoing renovation project of 538M€ destined to modernize and better equip the four main campus sites.

The University of Bordeaux benefits from all the assets of the city of Bordeaux and its surroundings. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List, described as "an outstanding urban and architectural ensemble”. The “Wine Capital” of the world, Bordeaux is located at the very heart of Southern Europe, only a few hours from major EU cities and just one hour from the Atlantic Ocean. In recent years, the city and the Aquitaine region have grown rapidly in terms of population and this growth has been accompanied by strong economic development.
