ROLE SUMMARY

Pfizer seeks a highly motivated and experienced scientist to join our Groton, CT cryo-EM group. Our group employs a state-of-the-art cryo-EM facility to determine high-resolution structures of proteins, protein-protein and protein-ligand complexes, and other macromolecular assemblies to elaborate molecular mechanisms and drive structure-based drug design. The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in structure determination by cryo-EM, with an emphasis on creative strategies for cryo-EM data processing and troubleshooting challenging datasets. This should include significant experience with a broad array of cutting-edge data processing tools. A key requirement of this position will be the determination of high-resolution protein structures of challenging targets by cryo-EM to deliver actionable insights to project teams pursuing active drug development projects.

As a member of our high-performing team, you will collaborate with biologists and chemists from across Pfizer to provide support for internal drug discovery programs at various stages of development. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, and job responsibilities will include regularly preparing and presenting results in the context of multi-disciplinary project teams. The successful candidate will be team-oriented and will be expected to draw from their expertise to actively participate in project teams and make contributions to inform decision-making on active drug discovery projects. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Establish productive collaborations with other colleagues and form partnerships with colleagues from research units and other departments.
  • Rapidly advance projects by timely problem solving and crisp decision making.
  • Clearly communicate with project team members and other Pfizer colleagues.
  • Consistently record your experimental results in an electronic laboratory notebook and comply with all Pfizer safety policies.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in biology, biochemistry, or biophysics or related field, with at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience and a solid record of high-quality publications.
  • Excellent skills in cryo-EM sample preparation, data collection, and data processing for structure determination, as well as model building and interpretation. Broad experience with cutting-edge data processing software, including AI-driven tools, is highly desirable.
  • Coding skills are desirable, but not required.
  • Strong molecular biology, protein expression and purification skills are desirable, but not required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with others in teams and foster collaboration.
