The Department of Neuroscience and the Kavli Institute for Neuroscience at Yale University seek a Director who will have responsibility to establish and lead a Core facility focused on use of human induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs) to advance Neuroscience discovery, with a focus on neurodegenerative diseases.  The inaugural iPSC NeuroCore Director will be embedded in a rich intellectual environment with a strong and collaborative community, with research topics spanning from molecular and cellular neuroscience to system and cognitive neuroscience.  The Yale Neuroscience Department realizes that the full potential of neuroscience research lies in the creative power that diverse perspectives bring to the field. We are working to foster an environment where individuals of any race, gender identity, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic class, sexual orientation, and geographical background feel supported and empowered to push forward the frontiers of neuroscience based on the principles of inclusivity and equity. We therefore strongly encourage applicants from historically minoritized backgrounds to apply.

The goal of the Core will be to collaborate with multiple Yale Neuroscience labs to design and execute neural cell-based genetic screens, to produce gene-edited iPSC lines, and to deliver quality iPSC-derived neural cell cultures.  Experiments will include both pooled and arrayed CRISPR screens, with readouts based on both sortable and image-based phenotypes. The Director will develop and optimize techniques, reagents and procedures related to the Core function, and have the opportunity to generate independent publications and grants.  During the first three years, the iPSC NeuroCore will be fully supported by substantial Institutional resources to recruit staff and to obtain equipment and supplies.

The applicant, who will be hired in the research faculty ranks, should have a doctoral degree in neuroscience, genetics, cell biology or a related field. Postdoctoral research experience and/or experience as an independent investigator is required. Research management experience is a plus. Experience with the following methods is preferred:

  • Human iPSC culture techniques
  • iPSC differentiation protocols related to neurons and/or glia
  • CRISPR-mediated genome editing and genetic screening
  • Molecular biology skills
  • Fluorescence microscopy techniques
  • Viral strategies for transgene expression

Outstanding interpersonal skills, enthusiasm for working with others, drive to learn and passion for science are required. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, innovative, and be able to contribute to an inclusive, dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment. The candidate will work with the guidance of the Chair of the Neuroscience Department and Director of the Kavli Institute, but must be able to operate independently.

Please send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a short description of your previous research experience (2 pages maximum) and arrange for submission of 3 letters of recommendation. All application materials should be submitted electronically to https://apply.interfolio.com/107970.  Applications will be reviewed as they are received and until the position is filled with priority given to those applications received by AUGUST 1, 2022.

Yale University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer. Yale values diversity among its students, staff, and faculty and strongly welcomes applications from women,  persons with disabilities, protected veterans, and underrepresented minorities.
