Science Program Leader for One Brave Idea

The One Brave Idea is an innovative and multifaceted scientific program funded jointly by the American Heart Association, Verily (formerly Google Life Sciences) and AstraZeneca.  The program seeks an accomplished individual to act as a Science Program Leader in this complex organization. The successful individual will bring experience in multiple areas of genomics, molecular and cellular biology, animal physiology and associated informatics.  The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of fundamental bench science as well as experience teaching and supervising other scientists. He or she will be an individual who is at the Assistant Professor level, but is considering a non-traditional bench science career. 

The successful candidate will be responsible, in conjunction with the OBI scientific leadership, for the design and execution of specific experiments within the program. The Science Program Leader will be directly responsible for the day-to day supervision of a broad range of wet lab projects in conjunction with postdoctoral fellows and research associates. They will be expected to supervise experimental design, experimental execution and experimental interpretation, as well as data presentation. The successful candidate will also be responsible for data governance, data integrity and adherence to data regulations.

The Science Program Leader will have a track record of successful scientific achievement including publication of high impact work. They will have experience in managing more junior scientist and in the organizational aspects of a growing scientific program. Experience in sophisticated interactions with academic and commercial institutional research management, contracting, legal counsel and IRBs will be invaluable. The Science Program Leader will establish and manage all the programmatic science ongoing in the local OBI environment in Boston, but will also be responsible for links between these projects and several others in the consortium.

The successful applicant will also be required to undertake a role, in conjunction with OBI leadership, in the active management of internal and external communications, human resources, marketing and any business development associated with the program. There will be a requirement for flexible hours and intermittent travel.

The Science Program Leader reports directly to the CSO, Dr. Stanley Shaw and through him to the Joint Leadership Group (JLG) composed of representatives of the core funding organizations. The Science Program Leader will work closely with the CEO, the CSO and the CDO to ensure the execution of the program goals. He/she will be responsible, in conjunction with the CSO, for the creation of regular science reports to the JLG.
