The School of Medicine (SOM) at University of Connecticut seeks an outstanding investigator with demonstrated leadership skills to serve as Chair for the Department of Molecular Biology and Biophysics (MBB).  MBB has a vibrant and active faculty working in diverse areas, including DNA replication/repair, protein homeostasis, structural biology (X-ray crystallography and NMR), microbiology/infectious diseases, computational biology, and drug discovery,that has been very successful in garnering external grant support.  MBB faculty also provide outstanding education and training to medical and graduate students.  It is anticipated that the incoming chair will utilize approaches including but are not limited to biochemical, biophysical, structural and molecular biology to study molecular mechanisms of various disorders such as cancer, heart disease, infectious and inflammatory diseases, metabolic syndromes or neurodegeneration.   The chair will not only have the opportunity to strengthen the existing research areas, but also to develop innovative new research initiatives within the department and to foster research collaboration in SOM and across the University. 

The Chair, reporting to the dean of SOM, is also responsible for facilitating and advancing departmental education of graduate and medical students at the SOM.  

The search committee invites nominations or applications for this open position, expected to be appointed at the Associate or Full professor level with tenure.  The candidate must currently lead distinguished and active NIH funded research programs that are recognized at the national and international level in the field.  A record of successful mentorship of graduate students and post-doctoral fellows and junior faculty is expected.
