Position Summary

The Instructor will work under the supervision of the Associate Dean, Program Director and personnel in the Graduate & Professional Studies office in the planning, facilitating, and coordination of the Eugene and Ruth Roberts Summer Student Academy. The Instructor will help students successfully make the transition to a professional environment through activities including: 1) moderating discussions; 2) mentoring independent and group projects, 3) planning activities and informational opportunities; 4) leading whole group and small group initiatives; and 5) ensuring that students complete all program requirements.



Key Responsibilities include:
  • Attend ALL seminars, training sessions and meetings
  • Work with the Associate Dean and Program Director to plan the syllabus, course content, meetings, outside activities for CIRM SPARK program
  • Assist CIRM SPARK students with their assignments for their 10 week period
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for academic and leadership behaviors as well as meet with students outside of class as needed
  • Perform laboratory checks to ensure safety protocols are correctly followed and that the students are mentored appropriately
  • Be reasonably accessible to the students and faculty members; provide assistance to include appropriate referrals to the students and facilitate communication between the students and faculty members and the Program Director
  • Organize and chaperone off campus activities that are part of the Summer Academy
  • Attend annual Roberts Academy Poster Session and CIRM Annual Meeting (Pasadena, CA)

The Instructor will play a very important role in the success of the Summer Academy. It should be a rewarding opportunity for professional and personal growth. The individual serving as the Instructor will be expected to meet the institution's high expectations for this significant role and will be selected based on the criteria below.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrated facility in sciences
  • Good communication skills
  • Desire to connect with students and committed to being a good mentor/role model
  • Ability to speak in front of groups
  • Good personal management skills and achievement skills
  • Abilities using social media platforms strongly desired
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds

Additional Information:

  • Salary: $12,000 for 3 months full-time work
