Postdoctoral Fellow
A postdoctoral position is immediately available for a highly motivated upcoming or recent Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. graduate in the field of optogenetics. The position is in the lab of Professor David Lawrence, at the University of North Carolina in the Departments of Chemistry, Chemical Biology & Medicinal Chemistry (Pharmacy), and Pharmacology (Medicine).
The Lawrence Lab works at the interface between chemistry and biology. The lab has broad interests, including the design of reporters of cell signaling activity, the construction of light responsive therapeutic agents, and the engineering and application of light-activated proteins (optogenetics). A postdoctoral position is immediately available for the optogenetics project. A strong background in molecular and cellular biology, and/or microscopy is required.

Research in the Division of Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy spans activities in contemporary chemical biology and drug discovery and blends the principles and experimental techniques of chemistry and biology with computational science. While maintaining a traditional emphasis on the drug candidate, we integrate contemporary biological methods to merge small molecule and target biomolecule research. This approach allows for elucidation of disease pathways and mechanisms of drug action. Discoveries made by CBMC investigators have led to three FDA-approved drugs, two spin-off companies, and several compounds in advanced phases of clinical trials for cancer and infectious diseases.
