Position Summary and Responsibilities The Zupan Lab at Vassar College is seeking a two-year full-time Research Technician to contribute to research of relationship/s among genetic and environmental factors programming neurodevelopment, brain function, and behavior associated with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders. The Research Technician will be responsible for their own project/s, will help student researchers with their experiments, and will perform general lab maintenance duties. The successful candidate will be energetic, exhibit close attention to detail and eagerness to learn, and have a strong worth ethic.

This two-year position was generously awarded by the National Institute of Mental Health.

Responsibilities:

 

 

 

  • Perform animal husbandry, genotyping, various behavioral assays, stereotaxic surgery, tissue harvesting, as well as imaging experiments involving live and/or fixed tissue;
  • Perform various molecular and biochemical assays including DNA/RNA purification, qPCR, fISH, IHC, protein extraction, western blotting, ELISA;
  • Perform basic lab maintenance duties including purchasing supplies, maintaining inventories, and cleaning and organizing general lab space;
  • Ensure that safe laboratory practices are followed, including the use and disposal of chemicals and hazardous material;
  • Analyze and organize acquired data;
  • Participate in laboratory meetings and planning sessions;
  • Be willing to train/supervise undergraduate student trainees;
  • Other duties as assigned.

 


Qualifications
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in related scientific field; A minimum of one year of independent undergraduate research experience required; Experience working with mice is strongly preferred and experience with stereotaxic surgery is desired; Attention to detail, ability to record and manage data files, and ability to coordinate multiple assignments on a day-to-day basis; A two-year commitment strongly preferred; A background in neuroscience and relevant laboratory experience are preferred.
