Faculty Position, Department of Pharmacy Practice, University at Buffalo

The University at Buffalo (UB) Department of Pharmacy Practice is seeking a tenure track faculty member at the assistant professor level in the area of infectious diseases therapy and resistance. Candidates for this position should have a strong record of research in infectious diseases, including extramural funding or a strong potential for extramural funding as a principal investigator. The successful candidate will also articulate a vision to develop and sustain a program of research in infectious diseases for Pharm.D., M.S. and Ph.D. students and teaching advanced coursework at the professional, graduate and postdoctoral level. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing an independent research program in infectious diseases research focused on a combination of laboratory approaches and modeling to advance new strategies to combat bacterial resistance.

Practice or research focus of the position: Infectious Diseases including the following skills: bacterial infectious diseases, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacometrics, molecular pharmacology, next generation sequencing in bacterial infectious diseases, genetics, genomics, bioinformatics and modelling approaches to support clinical and translational development of new strategies to combat resistance.

Scholarship and Research Responsibilities:

The faculty member will develop and engage in independent and collaborative scholarly activities in their area of expertise. Collaborative scholarship is strongly encouraged among faculty at UB.

Teaching Responsibilities:

The faculty member will provide didactic teaching in required and elective courses as agreed to with the Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice;

Service Responsibilities:

Service activities include service to the Department, School, and University (e.g., through active participation on committees), as agreed to with the Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice.

The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPPS) at UB is ranked among the top pharmacy schools in the United States. It was founded in 1886, is the second-oldest component of UB, and is the only fully accredited pharmacy school in the State University of New York (SUNY) system. The University at Buffalo is SUNY’s largest and most comprehensive research-intensive university, and is its primary center for professional education and training, as well as a member of the Association of American Universities. The University at Buffalo is a member of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC), a consortium of the region’s leading health care, research, and medical education institutions. The BNMC is dedicated to the development of a world-class medical environment for clinical care, research, education, and entrepreneurship. The Department of Pharmacy Practice, which is composed of 30 faculty members from diverse practice and scientific disciplines, collaborates with the Clinical and Translational Research Institute, a 15M award funded by NIH. The Department has a rich tradition of being at the forefront of clinical and translational research in pharmacy, and has an excellent history of NIH-funded investigators with strengths, bacterial infectious diseases, molecular pharmacology, antibiotic resistance pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.

The mission of the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the University at Buffalo is to serve the global community through leadership in research, clinical care and teaching of the practice of pharmacy. The SPPS offers a formal mentoring program and faculty development program to help new faculty successfully transition into the Academy. The goal of this program is to facilitate growth of individual faculty members in the areas of education, research and scholarship, and service, and to help them achieve their personal and professional goals while meeting the overall department mission. Qualifications must include: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Medicine, Pharmacy, Genomics, Genetics or Bioinformatics.  

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates are expected to have a track record of research productivity commensurate with their level of experience. The department/school is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
