American Physiological Society
The American Physiological Society (APS) invites nominations and applications for the position of founding Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of a new high-profile open-access journal, Function. As an interdisciplinary journal, Function will promote major advances in basic, translational, and clinical science from researchers studying systems biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, microbiology, immunology, and biomedical and tissue engineering. Function will seek to balance innovation with the practical needs of authors and readers in achieving robust peer review and by delivering the highest quality research quickly, efficiently and engagingly. Function will be a centerpiece of APS’s strategy to foster a broader physiological community and provide thought leadership. The Society has made a major commitment to launch the journal with a highly respected working scientist at its helm.
The Society seeks a highly regarded, internationally recognized active biomedical scientist (PhD, MD, MD/PhD) to serve as the EIC for Function. Equally, the EIC must be passionate about Function and willing to actively solicit papers from leading colleagues. The EIC will be an energetic and innovative leader with editorial experience in biomedical journals and will be committed to maintaining a high level of integrity of the scientific research literature. The EIC will appoint a Deputy Editor and Associate Editors. The Society and its publishing partner will support the team with staff, travel, and honoraria.
This is a part-time role, with a four-year term appointment and the potential for reappointment for an additional two-year term. EIC will be able to work from their current location(s). The Society plans to launch the journal ideally in 2020.
