Postdoctoral IRTA Position
Rocky Mountain Laboratories, Hamilton, MT
Salary commensurate with experience/education
A postdoctoral intramural research training award (IRTA) position is available to study the interactions of Borrelia burgdorferi with its tick vector and mammalian hosts. Projects are available to investigate proteolytic protein turnover and how these post-translational controls affect host/vector/pathogen interactions, transcriptional regulation, signal transduction, and stress responses of B. burgdorferi. The position is in the NIAID Laboratory of Bacteriology, Gene Regulation Section, at the Rocky Mountain Laboratories (RML) campus in Hamilton, MT. The position is part of an ongoing collaboration with Peter Chien, Ph.D., Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Massachusetts.
RML has undergone an expansion with new biosafety level (BSL)-4, BSL-3, and BSL-2 facilities. The lab has been completely renovated with new BSL-2/BSL-3 animal facilities and excellent support services, including Affimatrix microarray chip processing and reading, genomic analysis, DNA sequencing, and electron microscopy. The laboratory is located in the Bitterroot Valley of western Montana, with easy access to some of the best hiking, skiing, kayaking, mountain biking, and trout fishing in North America.
Trainees will receive a stipend commensurate with their experience, and benefits include health insurance. Successful applicants should be highly motivated and have a recent doctoral degree (obtained within last three years) in biochemistry or microbiology with a strong background in protein chemistry. Applicants may be U.S. citizens or permanent residents; for a visiting fellowship, visa requirements apply.
