Under the direction of Stephen J. McSorley, PhD, in the Center for Comparative Medicine, this post-doctoral position will focus on the analysis of host immune responses to Salmonella.  The main goals are  (1) to assess immunological memory using new molecular biology approaches; (2) to use this molecular information to develop new reagents and identify antigenic targets of memory responses.

The appointee will be directly engaged in lab-bench research under the general guidance of the Principle Investigator (PI) and is expected to make significant and creative contributions in all aspects of the project. The individual will be responsible for conducting research, interpreting data, writing manuscripts, and developing an understanding of the literature in the field. In addition, the appointee will provide mentoring and training, as needed, to other members of the lab (graduate students, research technicians).

Minimum qualifications

A PhD in immunology/molecular biology or related discipline and prior experience with molecular biology is required. Experience with host-pathogen interactions and flow cytometry is preferred.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Research activity (90%)

The appointee will primarily engage in a project that will develop a molecular understanding of T cell Receptor sequences in the liver of Salmonella-infected mice and use these sequences to screen for antigen specificity. This position requires that the individual work under the general direction of the PI but develop the ability to design, perform, and interpret experiments independently. The appointee is expected to identify, maintain, and protect files, documentation, and sensitive information consistent with record handling and retention requirements.

Publication (10%)

The appointee will assist the PI in the writing and submission of publications to high quality, peer-reviewed journals, books and other outlets. It is expected that the appointee will be listed as contributing Author.

Qualifications

A PhD in immunology/molecular biology or related discipline and prior experience with molecular biology is required. Experience with host-pathogen interactions and flow cytometry is preferred.

Desired start date: July 1, 2019. Salary: NIH Scale
