The Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience at Rutgers University is currently accepting applications for a postdoctoral position to address (1) how autophagy-lysosomal function is regulated in neurons, and whether and how altered axonal transport impacts the autophagy-lysosomal pathway, leading to axonal degeneration; (2) how mitochondrial quality is controlled in neurons under physiological and pathophysiological conditions; (3) whether and how mitochondrial quality control regulates mitochondrial energetic status and thus neuronal energy metabolism; (4) whether deficits in the endolysosomal pathway contribute to the deregulation of neuronal signaling. Given that impaired axonal transport and autophagy-lysosomal defects have been implicated in the pathogenesis of major neurodegenerative diseases, studies on these topics will yield fundamental knowledge to advance our understanding of the mechanisms of human neurodegenerative disorders.
Candidates for this position should hold a PhD degree with a strong research background in neurobiology or cell biology, at least in one of these areas: membrane trafficking, organelle transport, mitochondrial quality control and energy metabolism, neuronal signaling, and neurodegenerative mouse models.
Interested individuals should send CV, a personal statement describing research interests, and names and details of 3 references to cai@biology.rutgers.edu.
