The Department of Biology at Central Michigan University invites applications for the DIRECTOR OF NEUROSCIENCE PROGRAM position at the PROFESSOR OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR level to begin August 2019.

The Director of Neuroscience will serve as an advocate for the Neuroscience Program, develop and support faculty efforts to secure external funding, and maintain effective liaisons with the campus and community. The Director is expected to foster scholarly productivity and visibility of a diverse and active faculty. The Director will help refine and implement a shared vision for the undergraduate and graduate degree programs in neuroscience. S/he will develop and teach new courses in the program, while also supporting innovative and high quality teaching throughout the program. Moreover, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the development of a new neuroscience research institute.

The Neuroscience Program includes 16 faculty from departments and colleges across campus including the Department of Biology, the Department of Psychology, the College of Medicine, and the College of Health Professions. The Neuroscience Program includes an undergraduate major, as well as MS and PhD Programs. The position of director will be a tenured line within the Department of Biology, which includes 37 faculty and 11 staff and offers undergraduate and master's degree programs and interdisciplinary PhD programs: Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Earth and Ecosystem Science, and Neuroscience. The Department of Biology is in the College of Science and Engineering, which has identified neuroscience as an area of research focus. Applicants must have a PhD in a biology-related science with a proven record of externally funded research and teaching excellence. Demonstrated leadership ability, a record of successful administrative experience, and effective communication skills are also required. Applicants must meet the requirements for tenure at the rank of professor or associate professor in the Department of Biology.

Preference will be given to candidates who have a research program in cellular and molecular neurobiology, computational neuroscience and/or neurophysiology, and who can collaborate with faculty in the interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program.
