Tenure Track Faculty Position in Human Cancer Genetics/Precision Medicine

The University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) has a rewarding opportunity for a tenure track Assistant Professor faculty position to study human cancer omics, genetics, and/or epigenetics at our world-renowned institution at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  We aim to recruit one faculty member who has expertise in genome-wide studies of human cancer with knowledge both in the areas of cancer biology and computational science.  Candidates applying multidisciplinary approaches to study cancer are strongly encouraged to apply.  The successful candidate is expected to become an active participant in the NCI-funded Carbone Cancer Center and the recently established Center for Human Genomics and Precision Medicine, and to make use of human patient samples and derived reagents for her/his studies with the goal of translating basic research findings to improving our ability to prevent and/or treat human cancers. An ability to interact with the UWCCC Molecular Tumor Board is considered another strength.

This faculty position is part of a new initiative to expand research on human cancer omics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, led by the recent establishment of the Center for Human Genomics and Precision Medicine, and is part of a campus-wide cluster hire initiative https://facstaff.provost.wisc.edu/cluster-hiring-initiative/ in Human Cancer Genetics and Precision Medicine. This cluster hire position affords the successful applicant with significant financial resources from the University of Wisconsin-Madison to help her/him succeed in the early stages as a tenure track professor and beyond at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  The successful candidate will benefit from being a part of a highly interactive and cooperative scientific environment with cutting-edge core facilities supported by the Carbone Cancer Center, and will be expected to participate in programming, teaching, research and other initiatives of the cluster. The University of Wisconsin-Madison is a world-class academic institution with an international reputation for basic, translational and cross-disciplinary research and is located in the heart of one of the country's most livable cities.

The tenure home of the successful applicant will be from amongst a number of participating basic and clinical SMPH departments (Biomolecular Chemistry, Biostatistics and Medical Informatics, Cell and Regenerative Biology, Medical Genetics, Human Oncology, Medicine, Oncology, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Population Health Sciences and Surgery), with the opportunity for joint appointments where applicable.

Applicants must either have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Genetics, Cancer Biology or closely related field (such applicants should apply under PVL#95374) or an M.D. with a focus on treating cancer patients (such applicants should apply under PVL#95377). Preferred candidates should have at least three years postdoctoral training but exceptional applicants at all stages of their postdoctoral training will be considered. Additionally, we seek applicants with a track record of outstanding research accomplishments and exhibiting a strong commitment to mentoring and teaching in a highly collegial and collaborative academic environment.  Any department listed on the PVL (major/primary or other/secondary) may serve as the tenure home of the successful candidates.

Principle duties include: (1) develop an internationally-recognized research program studying cancer, (2) attract and maintain extramural funding, (3) mentor students, and/or postdoctoral fellows, (4) teach, (5) participate in faculty governance activities in the cluster initiative, the tenure home department, the school and/or University, (6) participate in professional and/or university service, and 7) actively participate and collaborate with other faculty in the human cancer genetics/precision medicine cluster on the UW-Madison campus.

All applications must be submitted via the Jobs at UW website: https://jobs.wisc.edu/.  To apply, you will be asked to submit the following: (1) Cover Letter/Statement of Interest, including a 2-3 page Research Statement (2) Curriculum Vitae (3) Three professional reference contact information.

In addition, please have your references immediately submit letters of recommendation on your behalf, indicating either PVL-95374 or PVL-95377, whichever applies, to the following email address: recruit@oncology.wisc.edu.

While this vacancy is being announced simultaneously under PVL#'s 95374 and 95377, please note that only one vacancy exists. The two PVLs allows the School of Medicine and Public Health to consider candidates with differing qualifications for tenure-track faculty credentials for this position.

The deadline for ensuring full consideration is April 1, 2019, however the position will remain open and applications may be considered until the position is filled.
