I. A Brief Introduction to Nanjing Forestry University
Nanjing Forestry University (NFU), located at the foot of beautiful Purple Mountain and on the shores of rippling Xuanwu Lake, is a provincial key university co-administered by Jiangsu Provincial Government and the Ministry of Education of China. It has a history of more than 110 years including its origin institutions which could be traced back to Forest Departments of Central University (founded in 1902) and Forest Departments of Jinling University (founded in 1910). In 2017, NFU was listed the “Double First-Class” University Project.
As a multidisciplinary university, NFU is featured by forestry discipline together with advantages in Resources, Ecology and Environmental Sciences. NFU now has 22 colleges (departments) and 8 Centers for Postdoctoral Studies. 7 primary-level disciplines and 39 secondary-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 22 primary-level disciplines and 93 secondary-level disciplines authorized to confer master’s degrees as well as 27 professional degrees. Currently, there are 2 national primary-level key disciplines of Forest Engineering and Ecology, 4 national secondary-level key disciplines, namely Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding, Chemical Processing Engineering of Forest Products, Wood Science and Technology, Forest Protection; 1 nurturing center of provincial primary-level discipline for national key discipline; 4 leading disciplines of Jiangsu Province; 7 primary-level key disciplines of National Forestry Administration; 2 second-level key nurturing disciplines of National Forestry Administration; 4 primary-level provincial key disciplines; 2 primary-level provincial key nurturing disciplines; 4 second-level provincial key disciplines. The number of national key disciplines ranks among the top of the universities in Jiangsu Province. NFU has achieved great performance in the fourth round of the national discipline assessment with two subjects rated as “A+” and one “A-”, occupying the first place among the forestry universities in China and Jiangsu Provincial colleges and universities.

1. Open Positions
(1) Metasequoia Scholars
Category A: Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, internationally leading scholars and scientists who serve in world prestigious universities and scientific research institutes, or those who are on the level with the above-mentioned.
Category B: The innovative scholars from National “Thousand Talents Plan” (Long-term), National Outstanding Teachers, Distinguished Professors supported by “Cheung Kong Scholars Program of China”, winners of Distinguished Young Scientists Foundation of National Natural Science Foundation of China, professors of overseas prestigious universities, or those leading scholars on the level with the above-mentioned, generally with the age below 55.
Category C: Winners of Outstanding Young Scientists Foundation of National Natural Science Foundation of China, winners of the Youth Project of the “Cheung Kong Scholars Program”, those on the list of the Youth Project of National “Thousand Talents Program”; those on the list of the “Top Youth Talents Support Program” of National Million Talents Program, associate professors from overseas prestigious universities, or those prominent scholars on the level with the above-mentioned, generally with the age below 45.
Category D: Those on the list of Provincial Key (Brand) Talents Programs (such as Distinguished Professors of Jiangsu Province, winners of Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province for Distinguished Young Scholars, assistant professors of overseas prestigious universities, or those top-notch scholars on the level with the above-mentioned, generally with the age below 40.
(2) Metasequoia Talents
Category E: The applicant should be a professor with Ph.D. degree, or those who are on the level with the above-mentioned talents.
Requirements and Qualifications: The applicant for Metasequoia Talents has presided over or is presiding over the National Natural Science Foundation project, or the National Social Science Foundation Project, or the National Arts Foundation Project, or obtained the provincial/ministerial or above scientific research achievement awards (ranking the top 2 for the first prize, and the top 1 for the second prize), or obtained the provincial/ministerial or above teaching achievement awards (ranking the top 2 for the special prize, the top 1 for the first prize). The applicant is required to have published more than 10 professional academic papers in the core publications independently or as first author in recent 5 years, at least 4 of which are SCI journal papers (at least one in Q1 or two in Q2), or 8 of which are EI journal papers (at least 4 in EI Compendex) or 8 of which are CSSCI journal papers (at least 4 in CSSCI Compendex). The number of papers can be adjusted for those who have had outstanding teaching achievements.
Applicants who apply for the discipline of Foreign Language and Literature are required to have published more than 8 professional academic papers, at least 6 of which are CSSCI journal papers (at least 4 in CSSCI Compendex).
Category F
(1) The applicant should be an associate professor with Ph.D. degree.
Requirements and Qualifications: The applicant for Metasequoia Talents has presided or is presiding over the National Natural Science Foundation projects, or the National Social Science Foundation Projects, or the National Arts Foundation Projects. Each applicant is required to have published more than 8 professional academic papers in core publications independently or as first author in recent 5 years, at least 3 of which are SCI journal papers (at least 2 papers in Q2 or above), or 6 of which are EI journal papers (at least 4 in EI Compendex), or 6 of which are CSSCI journal papers (at least 4 in CSSCI Compendex). The applicant in the Discipline of Foreign Language and Literature is required to have published more than 6 professional academic papers, 4 of which are CSSCI journal papers (at least 2 in CSSCI Compendex).
(2) The applicant, has got the Ph.D. degree from or has at least 2 years’ experience in undertaking post-doctoral research in overseas prestigious universities or academic institutions.
Requirements and Qualifications: The applicant should have their high-level papers published in authoritative journals as first author in recent 3 years, 5 of which are SCI journal papers (at least 2 in Q2 or above), or 10 of which are EI journal papers (at least 4 in EI Compendex), or 4 of which are SSCI journal papers or 10 of which are CSSCI journal papers (at least 4 in CSSCI Compendex) or above.
Applicants who apply for the disciplines of Civil Engineering, Forestry Engineering (Forest Engineering), Transportation engineering (Road and Rail Engineering), and Surveying and Mapping Science and Technology are required to have 4 papers published in SCI journals (at least 1 paper in Q2 or above), or 8 papers in EI journals (at least 4 in EI Compendex). Those who apply for the discipline of Management Science and Engineering are required to have 3 papers published in SCI journals, or 8 papers in EI journals (at least 4 in EI Compendex). Applicants who apply for the discipline of Urban Planning and Design (Urban and Rural Planning) are required to have 4 papers published in SCI journals (at least 1 in Q2 or above), or 6 in EI journals, or 4 in SSCI journals, or 8 in CSSCI journals. Those who apply for the discipline of Forestry Engineering (Furniture Design and Engineering) are required to have 3 papers or above published in SCI journals, or 5 papers or above in EI journals, or 5 papers or above in CSSCI journals.
(3)The applicant, has got their Ph.D. degree from or has at least 2 years’ experience in undertaking post-doctoral research in the “Double-first Class” Universities, or prestigious Academic Institutions of China.
Requirements and Qualifications: The applicant should have high-level papers published in authoritative journals as first author in recent 3 years, 6 of which are in SCI journals (at least 1 in Q1 and 1 in Q2) or 10 in EI journals (at least 5 in EI Compendex), or 5 in SSCI journals or 10 in CSSCI journals (at least 5 in CSSCI Compendex) or above. Or the applicant presided or is presiding over 1 National Natural Science Foundation project (including the Youth Foundation Project), and at the same time published high-level papers in authoritative journals as first author in recent 3 years, 4 of which are in SCI journals (at least 2 papers in Q2 or above) or 6 in EI journals (at least 4 in EI Compendex), or 3 in SSCI journals, or 6 in CSSCI journals (at least 4 in CSSCI Compendex) or above.
Applicants who apply for disciplines of Civil Engineering, Forestry Engineering (Forest Engineering), Transportation Engineering (Road and Rail Engineering), Surveying and Mapping Science and Technology are required to have at least one-year overseas experience, with 6 papers published in SCI journals (at least 2 in Q2 or above), or 10 in EI journals (at least 5 in EI Compendex). Applicants who apply for the discipline of Management Science and Engineering (Engineering Management) are required to have at least one-year overseas experience, with 4 papers published in SCI journals, or 8 in EI journals (at least 5 in EI Compendex). Applicants who apply for the discipline of Urban Planning and Design (Urban and Rural Planning) are required to have 3 papers published in SCI journals (at least 1 in Q2 or above), 5 in EI journals or 3 in SSCI journals, or 6 in CSSCI journals or above. Applicants who apply for the Discipline of Forestry Engineering (Furniture Design and Engineering) are required to have 4 papers published in SCI journals, or 6 papers or above in EI journals, or 6 papers or above in CSSCI journals.

Applicants who are Doctoral Graduates from NFU should meet one of the followings requirements:
①To have won the Excellent Ph.D. Dissertation Reward in Jiangsu Province.
②To have papers published in top journals in related field with the first author’s identity in recent 5 years, 5 of which are in SCI journals (at least 1 in Q1 and 1 in Q2), or 8 of which in EI journals (at least 4 in EI Compendex), or 4 of which in SSCI journals, or 8 of which in CSSCI journals (at least 4 in CSSCI Compendex) or above, and to have at least one year overseas studying experience.
③To have presided or be presiding over one National Natural Science Foundation project (including the Youth Foundation Project), and at the same time to have published high-level papers in authoritative journals with the first author’s identity in recent 5 years, 4 of which are in SCI journals (at least 2 in Q2 and above), or 6 of which in EI journals (at least 4 in EI Compendex), or 3 of which in SSCI journals, or 6 of which in CSSCI journals (at least 4 in CSSCI Compendex), and to have at least one year overseas studying experience.
2. Resources and Benefits
(1) Metasequoia Scholars
The Metasequoia Scholars will enjoy the annual salary system (consultative payment, pre-tax), and all-round supports in a settling-in allowance, house-purchasing subsidies, initiative funds for scientific research, laboratories and office(s), transitional houses, enrolment quotas for graduates and post-doctoral programs.
Category A: They will be offered an annual salary of no less than RMB1 million yuan, provided with a generous settling-in allowance and initiative funds for scientific research. According to the strategic development plan of the disciplines, NFU will provide each Metasequoia scholar with good working conditions and living welfare, and fully guarantee a comfortable working environment and a happy life in our school. The specific requirements and welfare package are negotiable.
Category B:
They will be offered an annual salary of no less than RMB800 thousand yuan, provided with a settling-in allowance of RMB300 thousand yuan, and house-purchasing subsidies of RMB1.5 to 2.5 million yuan. NFU will also provide initiative funds of scientific research for a Natural Science scholar with RMB3 to 5 million yuan and for a Humanities & Social Science scholar with RMB1 to 2 million yuan. Essential facilities will be offered for scientific research and daily work. Besides, NFU will also offer a research assistant(s) if necessary.
Category C: They will be offered annual salary of no less than RMB600 thousand yuan, provided with a settling-in allowance of RMB200 thousand yuan, and house-purchasing subsidies of RMB1 to 1.5 million yuan. NFU will provide initiative funds of scientific research for a Natural Science scholar with RMB1 to 2 million yuan and for a Humanities & Social Science scholar with RMB500 thousand to 1 million yuan. Essential facilities will be provided for scientific research and daily work.
Category D: They will be offered annual salary of no less than RMB300 thousand yuan, provided with a settling-in allowance of RMB200 thousand yuan, and house-purchasing subsidies of RMB600 to 800 thousand yuan. NFU will provide initiative funds of scientific research, for a Natural Science scholar with RMB800 thousand to 1 million yuan and for a Humanities & Social Science scholar with RMB400 to 500 thousand yuan. NFU will also provide each scholar necessary facilities for scientific research and daily work.
(2) Metasequoia Talents
During the tenure, Metasequoia Talents will enjoy the salary commensurate to their positions, welfare package and material benefits according to the relevant national provisions. NFU will also offer Metasequoia Talents corresponding supports including settling-in allowance, house-purchasing subsidies, initiative funds for scientific research and transitional houses as well.
Category E: NFU will provide each Metasequoia Talent with a settling-in allowance of RMB100 thousand yuan, and house-purchasing subsidies of RMB500 thousand to 1 million yuan, initiative funds of scientific research for a Natural Science talent with RMB400 to 500 thousand yuan and for a Humanities & Social Science talent with RMB200 to 300 thousand yuan. NFU will also assist in tackling all issues relating to their spouses’ employment and children’s schooling.
Category F: NFU will provide each Metasequoia Talent with a settling-in allowance of RMB100 thousand yuan, house-purchasing subsidies of RMB300-400 thousand yuan, and initiative funds of scientific research for a Natural Science talent with RMB200 to 300 thousand yuan and for a Humanities & Social Science talent with RMB100 to 150 thousand yuan.
Category G: NFU will pay each Metasequoia Talent one-off housing subsidies of RMB100 to 200 thousand yuan. Based on their research projects applied, NFU will provide initiative funds of scientific research for a Natural Science talent with RMB50 to 100 thousand yuan and for a Humanities & Social Science talent with RMB20 to 50 thousand yuan.
