This is the position of Astrophysicist (Research Assistant) in the High Energy Astrophysics Division of the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. The purpose of the position is twofold: 1) to support scientific research in the area of solar physics, specifically through analyzing observational data from solar instruments, and 2) assisting in obtaining data and creating observing programs for solar investigations.

The employee in this position provides technical scientific support of solar physics research and space observatory operations and calibrations for the Hinode/XRT and IRIS missions. Duties may include activities such as analyzing data in support of solar physics research projects, working with scientific staff to create and implement instrument calibration plans, developing observing programs for currently operating instruments, and assisting scientific staff in solar observatory operations.
