Instructor in Biochemistry, Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science

The Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, at the University of Calgary invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in the area of biochemistry. The appointment is at the rank of Instructor with the start date of July 1, 2019. 

We seek a highly collaborative individual to teach introductory biochemistry at first and second year levels and to develop and coordinate lab-based courses that enrich our undergraduate programs. Responsibilities include collaborating on curriculum development, design and implementation of courses, including lecture material, laboratories, assessments, student learning activities and other learning resources.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biochemistry, but exceptional candidates with a molecular, life or biological sciences degree and biochemistry research experience will also be considered. At least two years post-doctoral experience and/or two years of teaching experience in a post- secondary setting is required. Preference may be given to candidates with post-doctoral experience in the scholarship of teaching and learning and to candidates with experience in large classroom settings. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning as evidenced by established successes and use of contemporary approaches to teaching, e.g. active learning, and a desire to support student learning inside and outside the classroom.

The successful candidate, in addition to teaching, will also be expected to engage in Scholarship (pedagogical and/or discipline-specific) and service.
