Post-doc

Requirements: A PhD in neuroscience or related biological sciences. Candidate must be highly motivated to carry out cutting-edge research in innate immunity and focal cerebral ischemia. Strong working knowledge and demonstrated experience with the Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion (MCAO) surgery in rodents is required. In addition, prior experience with cellular and molecular biology techniques including tissue culture and immunohistochemistry is required.

Job duties: The Famakin lab is funded by start-up funds to develop a research program in innate immunity and focal cerebral ischemia. The successful candidate will employ the MCAO model to study innate immune activation during acute stroke and during stroke recovery. The lab is also interested in understanding the cellular mechanisms that underlie innate immune activation as it relates to the blood brain barrier disruption during acute focal cerebral ischemia. We use various cellular and molecular biology techniques to study innate immune activation during acute focal cerebral ischemia and during stroke recovery. The goal of these studies is to lay the groundwork for the development of novel therapeutics to attenuate tissue damage resulting from innate immune activation during acute stroke and therapeutics to potentiate brain repair during stroke recovery.
