Principal Scientist

The Role:
The purpose of this role to providing strategic science expertise, thought leadership and leadership in both programme design and attracting investment. The position will contribute to actively establishing collaborations with foremost scientists external to DairyNZ while delivering quality science output to maintain personal credibility. You will contribute to leading large and complex research programmes and represent DairyNZ with farmers, Government, other stakeholders and science peers. This leadership will assist DairyNZ to maintain and grow a nationally and internationally recognised core group of animal scientists and will facilitate effective transfer of technical knowledge to farmers and stakeholders including DairyNZ’s farmer facing staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conceptualise and develop strategy and programmes to help achieve DairyNZ’s goals via animal science solutions
- Lead the design and delivery of research programmes and projects in the field of animal science that support improved productivity, profit and environmental outcomes of New Zealand dairy farm systems
- Maintain strong relationships and networks with key scientists nationally and internationally, research providers and industry organisations to facilitate scientific collaboration
- Research programme management and industry advocacy
About You:
You will be recognised as an international authority in animal science with experience in designing and leading large scientific projects or programmes. PhD qualified and with a track record of success in gaining research funding for proposals you will have strong critical thinking skills, evidence of publications in peer-reviewed journals and the proven ability to develop and sustain effective relationships with stakeholders and service providers.
