FIVE FACULTY POSITIONS in Developmental Origins of Diabetes and Obesity
The Harold Hamm Diabetes Center, located on the campus of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC), announces a major gift and new initiative aimed at recruiting researchers interested in fundamental and translational aspects of early origins of diabetes and obesity. With a $34 million gift, the HHDC has opened the search for 5 Endowed Chairs in Diabetes research supported by $1 to $3 million each. Currently, more than 157,000 square ft. in capital facilities are dedicated to the HHDC, with opportunity for expansion. Faculty are currently supported by 12 endowed chairs ranging from $1 million to $3 million each.
Tenure-track positions are available at the Assistant/Associate/full Professor level in partnership with clinical or basic sciences at the OUHSC. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a nationally recognized, externally funded research program broadly aimed at investigating mechanisms by which nutrition, the microbiome, the immune system, or mitochondria contribute to developmental programming of disease.
Applicants should have demonstrated experience using modern analytical techniques such as epigenetics, biological mass spectrometry, or mitochondrial metabolism to address fundamental questions in their areas of research. Clinical researchers investigating pregnancy and early origins of childhood obesity/diabetes or NAFLD are also encouraged to apply. Our current portfolio includes studies in Mouse, Monkey, and Man in the first 1000 days of life. Areas of focus include:
- Maternal-Fetal Metabolism: maternal energy balance and signaling pathways; epigenetics and fetal growth; infant stem cells; initiating events in cells / tissues.
- Maternal Nutrition and Developmental Biology: mechanisms for development of insulin sensitivity; adipogenesis; mitochondrial metabolism; immunometabolism in the offspring.
- Microbiome Development and Metabolism: mechanisms of progression and prevention; gut development (organoids), temporal changes in health and disease including Cancer, Diabetes, and Aging.
- Pediatric Diabetes and NAFLD: liver disease and inflammation, fibrosis, metabolomic interactions; early-phase clinical trials.
- Health Outcomes and Prevention in underserved and special populations, with emphasis in American Indian and rural health; diabetes prevention in mothers, infants and families.
We seek to explore avenues of collaboration between both basic and translational researchers within the OUHSC, the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, and OU-Norman campus. Research may include both experimental and bioinformatics approaches and will complement or align with existing strengths within the Harold Hamm Diabetes Center, the Reynolds Oklahoma Center on Aging, the Stephenson Cancer Center, or others.
Campus shared resources and cores include: Tissue Banking and Pathology; Biostatistics and Research Design; Mass Spectrometry / Proteomics; DNA Sequencing / Genomics; Flow Cytometry / Imaging; Diabetic Phenotyping; Germ-Free Facility; Non-Human Primates, and Mobile Health (mHealth) Technology Network (NCTN), with robust pilot funding and training grants in diabetes, cancer, gerosciences, and developmental immunology.
