Drug Repurposing for Alzheimer’s Disease

The Unit of Clinical and Translational Neuroscience in the Intramural Program of the National Institute on Aging (NIA) is seeking applicants for a post-doctoral research fellowship. Our current work places a major emphasis on identifying novel therapies for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) by drug repurposing through analyses of large Electronic Health Record (EHR) datasets. This project leverages ongoing work in our group that applies ‘OMICS’ approaches to understanding AD pathogenesis. These studies have identified dysregulation in specific metabolic pathways in AD that may be targeted by commonly prescribed drugs.

We are seeking to recruit a talented post-doctoral fellow with expertise in pharmacoepidemiology who can contribute to a growing portfolio of high-impact publications from our group. Previous experience in analyses of EHR data to identify drug repurposing opportunities would be preferred. Prior experience with datasets such as Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) or Center for Medicare Services (CMS) is also preferred. Candidates with strong writing skills are encouraged to apply.

We offer 1) the opportunity to publish extensively in high-impact journals in the medical science fields and 2) collaboration and support in analytic and neuroscience fields within the lab and across the NIA. Salary is commensurate with other fellowship opportunities, and the position is renewable up to 5 years. DHHS and NIH are Equal Opportunity Employers. The NIH is dedicated to building a diverse community in its training and employment programs.
