The Ohio State University is seeking an established scholar to be the inaugural holder of the ENGIE Endowed Chair in Sustainable Materials.  Sustainable energy production, storage, conversion and distribution are fundamentally dependent on the development of new materials. Future energy systems will require the simultaneous development of novel fluids, materials, and architectures as well as the evaluation of those novel materials on sustainable practices, the climate, and the planet. The successful candidate will have a national and international research and education record in the broad area of sustainable materials.  It is expected that the candidate will have a tenured faculty appointment in one or more departments spanning the natural materials systems (e.g. physical, biological, chemical, geological...) and engineered materials fields (e.g. electrical, infrastructure, metallic, ceramic, polymeric, environmental…).

This Chair is one of a cohort of four ENGIE endowed positions that collectively address challenges in sustainable materials, resilient energy systems, energy and ecosystem policy, and energy and environmental humanities.  These four faculty members will be expected to work collaboratively and to collectively play leadership faculty roles in  Ohio State’s Energy Advancement and Innovation Center (https://www.osu.edu/energymanagement/Visionary%20project.pdf),  and to partner with the dozens of faculty hired through the university’s recent investments in two allied Discovery Themes: Materials and Manufacturing for Sustainability (https://discovery.osu.edu/materials-and-manufacturing-sustainability) and Sustainable and Resilient Economy (https://discovery.osu.edu/sustainable-and-resilient-economy).  The ENGIE endowed positions are part of a $150M academic investment in the area of sustainable energy as part of the 50-year partnership between Ohio State and Ohio State Energy Partners, a consortium of ENGIE North America and Axium Infrastructure; see https://www.osu.edu/energymanagement/index.php?id=67.

Required:  Doctoral degree in a science or engineering field appropriate to the scope of the position.

Desired:  Professional and/or teaching experience; broad professional abilities; distinguished record of scholarship, research, and/or professional practice commensurate with level of appointment; experience leading teams in and contributing to diverse learning environments; demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.  Demonstrated experience in collaborating both within a departments and across a broader scholarly scope.

Application materials must include a cover letter, curriculum vita, statements of research and teaching interests, the names and contact information of three references, and copies of up to three papers (published, under review, or in preparation). The Ohio State University is strongly committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in all areas including scholarship, instruction and outreach. In the cover letter, describe experiences, current interests or activities, and/or future goals that promote a climate that values diversity and inclusion in one or more of these areas. Review of applications will begin January 31, 2019.  The search will remain active, and applications will continue to be accepted, until the position is filled. The anticipated starting date of the position is August 16, 2019. Please apply online through Academic Jobs Online at: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/13090.
