SENIOR SCIENTIST I MICROBIOLOGY AND IMMUNOLOGY

A Senior Scientist I position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Thomas Geisbert in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at the University of Texas Medical Branch. We are looking for a highly motivated researcher to participate in studies on the pathogenesis and development of medical countermeasures against emerging and re-emerging viruses that require BSL-4 containment.  The successful candidate will have opportunities to participate in ongoing projects and possibly develop new projects, and is expected to be knowledgeable in standard virology, molecular biology, and immunology techniques, and have experience with both in vitro and animal studies.  The successful candidate must have strong writing skills and demonstrate the ability to write progress reports and manuscripts, which is an essential component of the position.  Previous experience in BSL-3 is preferred and the ideal candidate would have experience in BSL-4.  Working in Biosafety Level (BSL)-3 and BSL-4 environments will be a requirement of the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph. D, M.D, D.O., or D.V.M in related field and 6 years of related experience with Peer Reviewed Publications.
  • Prior experience with Virology is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in BSL-3 is preferred and prior experience in BSL-4 is highly desired.
  • Prior experience with Molecular Biology, Immunology, and Pathology is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated experience writing technical reports, progress reports, and/or manuscripts is highly desired as well.
