Responsibilities
The Post-Doctoral Scientist is responsible for conducting basic and applied research as an individual contributor in the Elanco Research Labs and the Bacteriology Research group. The primary research project will involve genetic manipulation of microbial pathogens as part of larger initiative to develop next-generation livestock health promoting and preventative immune-prophylactics. A strong foundation in molecular bacteriology, bacterial physiology and cellular microbiology will be required to proactively search for solutions in this discovery driven team. The ability to independently conceptualize and execute experiments, coupled with a “can do” attitude in a team spirit, is essential.

Basic Qualifications
PhD degree in bacteriology, microbiology, molecular biology, immunology, cellular microbiology or related scientific discipline and/or M.D. or D.V.M.

Key Objectives/Deliverables
- Proficiency in microbiology, microbial genetics, and molecular biology including molecular cloning, random and targeted mutagenesis, design and execution of complex protein expression and purification strategies.
- Participate in cross-functional research activities and effectively collaborate with other functional groups in the organization.
- Enable timely progression of research projects through the practical application of scientific expertise, which may include planning, protocol creation, and hands-on laboratory work.
- Keep abreast of relevant scientific literature/new technologies
- Proactively search for novel technologies or product opportunities and establish collaborations and research programs to deliver innovative technical solutions.
- Demonstrate proficiency at data reporting, interpretation, and trending.
- Demonstrate good documentation skills with regard to raw data recording and protocol authoring.

- Broad knowledge of General Bacteriology and Molecular Biology principles including molecular cloning, PCR, Gibson Assembly, and nucleic acid extraction, purification, & sequence analysis.
- Extensive experience with protein biochemistry, including recombinant protein expression and purification and co-immunoprecipitations.
- Experience in cellular microbiology techniques including culturing of mammalian cell lines and cellular bioassays.
- Effective oral and written communications skills.
- High personal ethical and quality standards.
- Exceptional problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Must be able to work productively in an interdisciplinary team environment.
- Occasional travel (mainly US).
- This position is not permanent. It is for a fixed duration of two years with potential to extend.
