Job Details

Responsibilities
The Junior Animal Care Technician is responsible for handling, restraining, feeding, and otherwise caring for Production, Quality Control, and Research animals. Must be able to perform proper documentation and proceed independently in the care and husbandry of all animals on site in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Must be able to read, understand, and follow written procedures
  • Must be able to follow Elanco Animal Health Standard Operating Procedures
  • Must be able to properly document work and observations performed with strict adherence to GXP documentation
  • General knowledge of aseptic techniques and ability to follow rules of these techniques
  • Knowledge of proper sanitization techniques and ability to properly perform and follow rules of these techniques
  • Perform General Housekeeping
  • Preparing for incoming animals (power washing, disinfecting, facility set-up)
  • Perform daily observation of animals and reporting any abnormalities
  • Perform animal handling
  • Assist in animal conditioning (vaccinations, deworming, etc.)
  • Administer treatments prescribed by the veterinarian for livestock, companion, and laboratory animals
  • Proper operation of sterilizers, cage washers, and other equipment
  • Proper operation of large equipment (snow removal equipment, farm machinery, fork truck, etc.)
  • The ability to work in adverse outdoor conditions
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma /GED and AALAS Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification
  • AALAS certification at the ALAT level, or ability to obtain within 16 months of employment
  • Completion of Post Offer Exam, Completion of Work Simulation or Completion of Administrative Skills Testing if applicable.

    • Demonstrated understanding of systems, equipment, and processes
    • Demonstrated ability to set-up and troubleshoot equipment as required
  • Organizational Skills
    • Effective and efficient organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills
  • Comprehension and Application
    • Proficient reading, comprehension and application skills toward a diverse set of complicated tasks
    • Additional Education and/or Equivalent Experience
    • Successful completion of National Career Readiness Work Keys assessment
    • Two (2) years of related animal experience as described above
