London
Research Fellow in Multiscale Understanding of Genome and Cytoskeleton Rearrangements
Full Time
The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £35,328 - £42,701 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
The mechanobiology and biophysics group at the Francis Crick Institute and Department of Physics & Astronomy at UCL is recruiting a postdoctoral research fellow funded by the Crick institute.
The focus of the laboratory is to determine how complex mechanical intracellular rearrangements of genome and cytoskeleton result from interaction between defined ensembles of motor and non-motor molecules using a combination of single-molecule imaging and force-spectroscopy. A number of projects are available in the group, which include but not limited to:
• Organization of the microtubule cytoskeleton by microtubule tip generated forces • Development of new magnetic tools for probing force-generating mechanisms in live cells • Mechanistic principles of DNA reorganization by Cohesin (in collaboration)
For more information about the group and our research, please visit: https://www.crick.ac.uk/research/labs/maxim-molodtsov
This position is funded for four years in the first instance with a possibility to extend to up to six years.
The successful applicant will have a PhD in physical, biophysical sciences or a relevant area and expertise in single-molecule microscopy, force-spectroscopy and/or single-molecule biophysics.
Applicants are expected to have a strong publication record, passion for quantitative biology and an interest in unravelling fundamental principles underlying macromolecular cellular organization.
We are looking for bold, imaginative, open, dynamic and collegial postdoctoral fellows. Good communication and organizational skills are required.
Knowledge of cell biology, soft matter physics and statistical mechanics is desirable.
Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £30,922-£32,607 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
