Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital Postdoctoral Positions - Stem Cell/Genome Editing/Neurodegeneration

There are three postdoctoral positions open in the Khurana laboratory (khuranalab.bwh.harvard.edu) at Brigham and Women's Hospital / Harvard Medical School, and within the Harvard Stem Cell Institute.

The Khurana laboratory uses cutting edge stem cell, genome-editing and in situ proteomic techniques to study the protein-misfolding pathologies that underlie neurodegenerative diseases (Chung, Khurana et al. Science 2013; Khurana, Peng, Chung et al. Cell Systems 2017; Khurana and Jarosz Cell 2017).  Mechanistic insights from these studies are applied to understanding the contribution of genetic risk factors to disease risk, and for developing therapeutic strategies. The lab has a growing interest in understanding how distinct misfolded protein conformations (“strains”) lead to different disease states.

The lab has now established a suite of engineered stem-cell models from patients with Parkinson’s disease, multiple system atrophy and related disorders. These reagents now open up multiple distinct projects, with variable focus on biochemistry/biophysics, cell biology and genome-editing. Each project has a basic science and translational aspect. We are looking for three postdoctoral fellows to take them on.  We are keen to attract motivated, open-minded and collaborative applicants. Candidates will need to have solid experience in cell culture and molecular biology techniques. Depending on the specific project, advanced skills in one or more of human stem cell biology, genome-editing, cell biology/imaging, biophysics/biochemistry would be ideal.

We strive for impactful science in a collaborative and collegial environment. We consider career development in basic science and translational medicine core to our mission. Our postdoctoral fellows will fully benefit from the deep connections to premier academic labs, hospitals and biotech companies that we have established in the rich Boston biomedical environment. The lab is located in the Building for Transformative Medicine, housing state-of-the-art laboratory and clinical facilities adjacent to Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Khurana is a Robertson Investigator of the New York Stem Cell Foundation.

Our salary and benefits package will be highly competitive and commensurate with the cost of living. Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School are Equal Opportunity Employers.  Please email a cover letter, your CV, and contact details for three references to Vik Khurana MD, PhD (vkhurana@bwh.harvard.edu) and copy Joan Swan (jhswan@rics.bwh.harvard.edu).
