Nanchang University (NCU), the only Project 211 university in Jiangxi Province, the university jointly constructed by the Ministry of Education and People’s Government of Jiangxi Province, the only high-level university comprehensively built in Jiangxi Province, has joined China’s “Double First-Class” Initiative to build world-class disciplines.

NCU is located in Nanchang City, also known as the Hero City. It has 5 campuses, including Qianhu, Qingshanhu, Donghu, Poyang, and Fuzhou. Qianhu as the main campus covers an area of 4,520 mu and a school building area of 1.3 million square meters.

NCU can be traced back to Jiangxi Public Medical School founded in 1921 and National Chung Cheng University in 1940. In 1993, Jiangxi University and Jiangxi Technology University merged into Nanchang University, which marked the beginning of China’s educational reform. In 2005, Jiangxi Medical College was incorporated into NCU.

NCU has 4481 faculty members, among whom 2597 are full-time and 1429 have earned the title of associate professor or professor. More than one hundred faculties have won the support of Changjiang Scholars Program, the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and the National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project. There are 35,660 full-time undergraduate students, 14,864 graduate students, and 963 overseas students.

NCU comprises the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Division of Science and Engineering, and the Division of Medical Science. Now 12 disciplines with more than 100 majors have been established. 3 of them are national key disciplines, 15 are entitled to confer doctoral degrees, 46 postgraduate degrees, and 11 postdoctoral programs are available. NCU has 5 affiliated hospitals and 9 national key clinical majors. Disciplines like Chemistry, Clinical Medicine, Agricultural Science, Engineering, and Materials Science are among the top 1% of the ESI ranking, among which Agricultural Science (mainly Food Science and Engineering) is ranked in the top 5%. Food Science and Engineering ranked third in the fourth China University Subject Rankings (CUSR) evaluation.

Target Scholars, Requirements, and Remuneration

I. Changjiang Scholar Candidates

1.1. Changjiang Distinguished Professors

Requirements:

A. Overseas applicants should have gained the position of associate professor or equivalent in a distinguished university, while domestic applicants should hold the position of professor.

B. Scholars in the fields of Natural Sciences or Engineering Technologies should be aged under 47, while scholars in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences should be under the age of 57.

C. Candidates should work on a full-time basis after getting the job.

1.2. Changjiang Chair Professors

Requirements:

A. Doctoral degrees and work experience in teaching and researching are required. Overseas applicants should have gained the position of professor or equivalent in a distinguished university.

B. No limit for age.

C. Professors should work at least 2 months per year at NCU.

Working Conditions:

A. We will offer distinguished talents an annual salary of RMB 800,000-1,200,000 according to Interim Procedures for the Recruitment of Talents.

B. Jiangxi Provincial Government will award each applicant selected into the Provincial “Double Thousand Talents Plan” a research grant of RMB 2,000,000-3,000,000 and NCU will offer a research start-up fund for discipline and platform construction.

C. Candidates selected as the tenured professors are qualified to supervise doctoral students. NCU will offer good research platform, working office, and research space.

D. NCU will provide an all-round arranged housing.

E. NCU will offer a job for your spouse and access to quality education from primary school to high school for your kids.

F. NCU’s affiliated first-tier hospitals will provide you with excellent health care.

1.3. Changjiang Young Scholars

Requirements:

A. Doctoral degrees and work experience in teaching and researching are required. Domestic applicants should have gained the position of associate professor or equivalent.

B. Scholars in the fields of Natural Sciences or Engineering Technologies should be aged under 38, while scholars in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences should be under the age of 45.

C. Candidates should work full time at NCU after accepting the offer.

Working Conditions:

A. We will offer leading talents an annual salary of RMB 500,000-800,000 according to Interim Procedures for the Recruitment of Talents.

B. During your term, the nation will provide an annual prize of RMB 100,000.

C. NCU will offer tenured professorships to successful candidates.

D. NCU will provide sufficient starting fund according to the conditions and needs of different disciplines.

E. NCU will offer a settling-in allowance and housing subsidy of at least RMB 550,000, and an interim house.

F. NCU will offer a job for your spouse and access to education for your children.

G. Necessary working office and research office will also be offered. Successful candidates will be graduate supervisors.

 Candidates though failed in the interview will be offered an annual salary of RMB 250,000-500,000 according to Interim Procedures for the Recruitment of Talents.

II. Young leader candidate

Requirements:

1. Scholars should be under the age of 40 with doctorate degrees in the fields of Natural Sciences and Engineering Technologies.

2. More than 36 months of full-time teaching or research experience in renowned overseas universities or R&D institutions after the acquisition of a doctorate is needed. Requirements for work experience can be lowered for distinguished scholars who have gained doctorates overseas or talents who are urgently needed in China.

3. Scholars need to have peer-reviewed publications and potential to become the leading experts in relevant fields.

4. Applicants should not be full-time employees or should not have work experience of more than a year in China. After accepting the offer, candidates must work full time at NCU.

Working Conditions:

1. We will offer leading talents an annual salary of RMB 500,000-800,000 according to Interim Procedures for the Recruitment of Talents.

2. We will offer a tenured professorship with good research platform, working office, and research space.

3. National R&D fund of RMB 1,000,000-3,000,000, an innovative research support of RMB 5,000,000 from Jiangxi Provincial Government, and a research start-up fund for discipline and platform construction from NCU will be offered.

4. A national subsidy of RMB 500,000, an interim all-round arranged house, a housing fund of no less than RMB 550,000, and a talent prize depending on talent’s conditions are offered.

5. A job for your spouse and access to quality education from primary school to high school for your kids are provided.

According to NCU’s Interim Procedures for the Recruitment of Talents, failed candidates who have passed the correspondence evaluation can earn an annual salary of RMB 250,000-500,000 after the assessment of NCU.

III. Candidates for Jiangxi Province “Double-Thousand Plan”

3.1. Long-term programs for leading talents

Requirements:

1. Applicants should be doctoral degree holders under the age of 55 with scientific creativity, research competence, and peer-reviewed publications.

2. A position of associate professor or equivalent in renowned overseas universities, research institutes, or medical institutions, or a position of professor or equivalent within China are required. Requirements for age, degree, and position can be lowered for innovative talents urgently needed in Jiangxi Province.

3. Applicants should not be full-time employees or should not have work experience of more than two years in China. After accepting the offer, candidates must work full time at NCU.

3.2. Short-term programs for leading talents

Requirements:

1. Applicants should be doctoral degree holders under the age of 55 with scientific creativity, research competence, and peer-reviewed publications.

2. A position of associate professor or equivalent in renowned overseas universities, research institutes, or medical institutions, or a position of professor or equivalent within China are required. Age limit can be extended to 65 for experts with good health and huge influence in relevant fields.

3. Applicants should not be full-time employees in Jiangxi Province. After accepting the offer, candidates must work at NCU for two months per year for at least 3 years.

Working Conditions:

1. According to NCU’s Interim Procedures for the Recruitment of Talents, leading talents are provided with an annual salary of RMB 500,000-800,000. Salary is negotiable for outstanding candidates.

2. A tenured professorship is available. Good research platform, working office, and research space will also be offered.

3. A support fund of RMB 2,000,000-3,000,000 is provided by Jiangxi Province, RMB 200,000-500,000 for experts in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences, less than 30% of which can be used for personal purposes. NCU will offer a starting fund according to the conditions of the discipline platform.

4. An interim house will be provided.

5. Access to quality educations from primary school to high school for children will be provided.

IV. Candidates for Jiangxi Province Jinggang Young Scholars

Requirements:

1. Decent academic conduct, rigorous academic standard, integrity and team spirit are needed.

2. Applicants for openings in Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technologies should be under the age of 38. Applicants for positions in Humanities and Social Sciences should be under the age of 40.

3. Doctoral degrees, full-time work experience in overseas universities, research institutions, medical centers, or enterprises, as well as peer-reviewed publications are required.

4. Applicants should play a leading role within his/her field and show potential to win the support of national programs like the Thousand Talents Program, Changjiang Scholars, the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Hundred-Talent Program, and the National special support program for high-level personnel recruitment.

Requirements can be lowered for excellent applicants urgently needed.

Working Conditions:

1. According to NCU’s Interim Procedures for the Recruitment of Talents, disciplines talent are provided with an annual salary of RMB 250,000-500,000. Salary is negotiable for outstanding candidates.

2. A tenured professorship is available with good research platform, working office, and research space.

3. An annual bonus of RMB 100,000 from the Jinggang Program will be provided.

4. A research fund of RMB 500,000-2,000,000 for experts in fields of Science, Engineering and Medicine, RMB 100,000-500,000 in fields of Humanities and Social sciences is offered.

5. An interim house can be temporarily used.

6. Access to quality education from primary school to high school for children will be provided.
