The College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan is pleased to invite applications for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Cancer Genomics and Systems Biology. The Canada Research Chair (CRC) Program is the flagship of a national strategy to make Canada one of the world’s top countries in research and development (www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca).

The Chair will provide leadership and expertise in the field of cancer research using genomics and systems biology approaches to advance personalized medicine for cancer treatment. The candidate for the Tier 1 CRC Chair will add capacity and new expertise in functional genomics, synthetic lethality, large-scale tumor “omics” (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, etc.) and bioinformatics. Outstanding candidates in other areas of cancer biology will be considered. The Chair will secure external funding, including Tri-agency grants and will also be expected to attract, supervise and mentor graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The Chair is expected to make major contributions in the area of precision oncology that will spark productive collaborations both across our campus and outside of the University and strengthen the University’s strategic initiative to advance human health.

The Chair is expected to join a rich collaborative network within the College of Medicine and University, encompassing Cancer, Drug Discovery, Imaging, and Molecular Design research groups, Departments of Chemistry and Computer Science, and the Saskatchewan Centre for Cyclotron Sciences and the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. The Chair will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from across the Colleges of Medicine (Cancer Groups), Pharmacy and Nutrition (Drug Discovery Group), and Arts & Science (Chemistry and Computer Science). The Chair will also benefit from the close ties the College of Medicine has with the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, a key resource to translate fundamental pre-clinical discoveries into new clinical trials.

It is anticipated that the appointment of the Chair will be in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology that currently has 28 faculty members and several associate members, many of whom lead cancer-related research programs. Considerable infrastructure for cancer research is in place and is supported by the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency and the College of Medicine.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. and the rank of Professor, Associate Professor or equivalent. International applicants are particularly encouraged to apply. We are seeking candidates who demonstrate excellence, creativity, and leadership in research, whose accomplishments have made a major impact in their fields, and who will bring a highly innovative cancer research program to the University of Saskatchewan.

The successful applicant will be appointed as a tenured faculty member at the Professor or Associate Professor level in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology and will be nominated for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair.

Salary bands for this position are as follows: Associate Professor $112, 109 - $130,925; Professor $130, 925 – $152,877, with the possibility of merit-based additions.
