Research Associate Position at the Head and Neck Cancer Research Lab, Johns Hopkins University

Seeking a researcher for a junior faculty position (Research Associate) with the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine to lead research activities, training of research fellows and students.

The position requires excellent biomedical sciences knowledge, managerial, interpersonal skills, clear written and oral communication skills, considerable flexibility and adaptability, and a broad understanding of, and hands-on experience with translational/basic science lab based cancer research

The position is in the Head and Neck Cancer Laboratory (Department of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery), a multi-PI lab, headed by Dr. David Sidransky. The PIs include Dr. Atul Bedi, Dr. Mariana Brait, Dr. Elana Fertig, Dr. Daria Gaykalova, Dr. Mohammad O. Hoque, Dr. Evgeny Izumchenko, Dr. Zubair Khan and Dr. Rajani Ravi.

Anticipated specific duties include:

  • Manage all aspects of the research project in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Supervise and train postdoctoral fellows, research fellows, students, technicians and/ or coordinators throughout research, and publication process. Assist on drafting of manuscripts in coordination with other team members, and direct manuscripts through all phases of the submission, review, revision, and re-submission process through publication. Present research proposals and/or findings to internal and external audiences.
  • Design, implement and conduct experiments and projects, validating experiments, troubleshooting and performing data analysis.
  • Conduct reviews of relevant scientific literature.
  • Identify potential new research studies themes.
  • Assist on the preparation of research proposals for specific projects.

The position is available immediately. The position is fully funded through 2021 at a minimum. The employment contract is renewable yearly, based on successful annual performance reviews. Note that faculty in a Research Associate position at Johns Hopkins are not expected to obtain or have their own funding.  However, as this position is faculty rank, they are qualified to be PIs on funding proposals.  The nature and/or extent of any independent research must be approved by the Division Director.  If the individual’s responsibilities to the research program are met and the proposed independent research is consistent with the Division’s research mission, approval is likely.

Position Requirements: Appropriate candidates should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Oncology, Molecular Biology, Biological sciences, or a comparable discipline.  The position requires evidence of successfully publishing research and interpersonal interaction.
