Genome Canada has an exciting opportunity for two Program Managers, based in Ottawa, Ontario. We have an immediate need for a regular full-time position as well as a one year contract position covering a maternity leave starting in June 2017.
Reporting to a Program Director, and as part of the Programs Team, each Program Manager will contribute to the overall management of the genomics research and development portfolio, provide input into program design and the development, enhancement and interpretation of program related policies, competition guidelines and related criteria. They will also manage the peer review processes and post award administration for assigned programs. Each Program Manager will have responsibility for one of Genome Canada’s flagship programs, as described below.
The regular full-time Program Manager will manage programs in the Large-Scale Science portfolio, which includes the Large-Scale Applied Research Project (LSARP) Program as well as strategic initiatives that address national and international opportunities. These programs also include genomics-related research undertaken from the perspective of the social sciences and humanities – known as GE3LS research (i.e., genomics and its ethical, environmental, economic, legal and social aspects).
The one year contract Program Manager will manage Genome Canada’s Genomic Applications Partnership Program (GAPP). GAPP funds downstream research and development (R&D) of tools, processes and products that address “real world” challenges and opportunities facing industry and public sector users of genomic technologies. GAPP projects translate Canadian knowledge and expertise in genomics into valuable applications that drive economic growth and improve the quality of life for Canadians.
As the ideal candidate for either position, you have a research-based degree (preferably a graduate degree in the life sciences), from a recognized university. You have knowledge of Canada’s research environment and the importance of genomics research and development in different sectors. You possess excellent research and analytical skills coupled with fine attention to detail. Proficiency in both English and French is a definite asset. For the Program Manager responsible for GAPP, experience in commercial due diligence review and translation of technologies towards a product, tool or process within either the public or private sectors is preferred.
