Scientist or Technical Scientist at MAT, JAMSTEC
Department of Mathematical Science and Advanced Technology (MAT), JAMSTEC is soliciting applications for a full-time TENURE-TRACK position as a Scientist or Technical Scientist. The successful applicant will be engaged in the third medium-term plan.

1) Physical modeling and numerical investigation of crust deformation and fluid flow related to plate coupling
2)The study of methods to distinguish seismic and non-seismic zones on the surface of the Earth

Computed Solid Earth Science, Computational Mechanics, Simulation, Science, Geophysics, Geology, Structural Geology.
Scientist: To contribute to the Agency, a Scientist should be able to perform world-leading research independently and share the results through scientific publications.
Technical Scientist: To contribute to the Agency, a Technical Scientist is expected to take a leading role in research, technology development, and technology innovation.
*There may be a change in affiliation in the case of reorganization of the Agency.
*At the time of hiring, the Job Type (Scientist or Technical Scientist) will be determined in accordance with the bylaws of JAMSTEC.
Scientist: The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. and a strong record in a closely related research field.
Technical Scientist: The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. and a strong record in a closely related research and development field.

[Working Conditions & Contract Period]
(1)Number of positions: 1 position for a Scientist or Technical Scientist
(2)Type of contract: Tenure-track fixed-term employee
(3)Working Hours: Discretionary labor system
(4)Contract Period: Period of employment is from July 1, 2017 to March 31, 2022.
*Appointment date is negotiable.
*One contract period is a maximum of five fiscal years. The contract period will not be renewed.
*In accordance with the bylaws of JAMSTEC, on reaching the age of 65 years during an employed fiscal year, the contract period will expire at the end of the same fiscal year. This bylaw may change.
*After undergoing an evaluation during the period of employment, the contract may be modified to one without termination (termination of employment would be at the end of the fiscal year in which the employee reaches the age of 60, or the age of 65 if the employee is rehired after his/her retirement). Annual salary (paid in 1/12 equal monthly payments)

*Salary will be competitive in accordance with the bylaws of JAMSTEC, based on the academic qualifications and demonstrated research skills of the applicant.
