Assistant/Associate Professor & Director of Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD)

 

POSITION: Twelve-month tenure-track administrative, teaching, and research position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to begin August 16, 2017. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The DPD Director is responsible for directing the DPD program in a department that also offers studies in Nutrition. The DPD Director is responsible for ensuring that the program meets the accreditation criteria established by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND); advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students; participating in course, curriculum and policy development; maintaining intra- and inter-program communication; and conducting systematic and continuous evaluation of the program. The Director will be responsible for teaching Medical Nutrition and other nutrition courses; engaging in scholarly research endeavors; and participating in service activities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate from an accredited institution, in nutrition, dietetics, food service management or related fields; Registered Dietitian, license-eligible in Alabama; evidence of professional preparation and experience in the practice of dietetics; demonstrated knowledge in area(s) of specialization as well as excellent communication, writing, and research skills; and evidence of effective teaching at the university level. Knowledge of ACEND Accreditation standards; willingness to engage in collaborative research; and evidence of successful leadership. The successful candidate must meet the eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment. 

SETTING:  The Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Hospitality Management employs 15 fulltime tenure-track faculty and is affiliated with the College of Human Sciences.  The department offers a baccalaureate degree in program options in Nutrition Science (pre-med), Dietetics, and Wellness and master and doctoral degree programs in Nutrition.  Opportunities to engage in collaborative research are supported by the Auburn University Boshell Diabetes and Metabolic Disease Research Program, the Center for Health Ecology and Equity Research (CHEER) and Auburn University Research Initiative in Cancer (AURIC). East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) and the Edward via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) provide additional opportunities for translational research.
