The University of Sydney is Australia's first university and has an outstanding global reputation for academic and research excellence. It employs over 7500 permanent staff, supporting over 52,000 students.

Applications are invited for two Postdoctoral Research Associates (Level A) in the Complex Systems Research Group (CSRG), led by Professor Mikhail Prokopenko, at the School of Civil Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies at the University of Sydney.

The research in CSRG is focussed on studying nonlinear critical phenomena in technological, social, organisational, and biological systems.  CSRG is an integral part of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies' Complex Systems research theme, and has wide collaborations across the University, Australia, and internationally. It has a strong focus on theory and quantitative methods, and covers such areas as guided self-organisation, large-scale complex networks, and adaptive systems.  Research outcomes have an impact on diverse areas such as large-scale epidemic modelling, financial crisis forecasting, disaster and emergency management, organisational and social risk management, as well as the stability of power grids, communication and transport systems.

It is expected that you would contribute to either ARC Discovery Project on “Large-scale computational modelling of epidemics in Australia” or ARC Discovery project "Australian housing market risks: simulation, modelling and analysis", by developing innovative computational models for complex adaptive systems and implementing these in software.

The position is a full-time fixed term for 2.5 years subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees
