The Farncombe Family Digestive Health Research Institute, in the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University invites applications for a faculty position. The successful applicant will be appointed at a rank commensurate with their credentials and experience and will also be appointed to an endowed chair funded through the generosity of the Farncombe Family.

The successful applicant must have expertise in fundamental phage biology and its application to the manipulation of the gastrointestinal microbiome. The successful applicant will have experience that enables exploitation of the Institute’s unique facilities that include a large axenic-gnotobiotic unit, a metagenomics facility, culture facility for commensal bacteria, and access to patient material through the Institute’s close affiliation with the Division of Gastroenterology.

The Institute is home to a large and energetic contingent of scientists and clinician-scientists, as well as undergraduate and graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. The Institute embraces an integrated interdisciplinary approach to the study of intestinal diseases with expertise in mucosal immunology, microbiology, intestinal physiology and gut-brain interactions (http://farncombe.mcmaster.ca). The successful applicant will bring an invigorating individual perspective to the study of the roles of phage in health and disease that will drive exciting and innovative research and training.  

Applicants must possess a PhD, MD or MD/PhD with experience in a relevant field, coupled with an excellent publication record and a strong track record in teaching/mentoring of HQP. The successful applicant will develop an active research program in their relevant field and contribute regularly to educational programs at McMaster University. Those wishing to maintain a clinical practice must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the Province of Ontario.
